Community and Family Resources is seeking a Prevention Specialist to serve Humboldt, Kossuth and Pocahontas counties. The role focuses on reducing tobacco use through collaboration with community partnerships and prevention teams.

The job involves training, coalition support, and coordinating volunteers, with a schedule of full-time hours and occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Education, Community Health, Human Services, or related field required.
• Two years of work experience in education, training, public relations, or community activism OR three years in a human service agency preferred.
• Must be a Certified Prevention Specialist or obtain certification within 24 months.

Responsibilities

• Develop service goals and objectives with the prevention team and supervisor.
• Provide professional training to the public, coalitions, area agencies, schools and community members in prevention strategies.
• Assist coalitions in environmental changes and recruitment for tobacco prevention.
• Maintain public relations between the agency prevention project and community resources.
• Provide group presentations in schools, industry, and community groups on tobacco prevention.
• Support, coordinate and align funded programming requirements with area communities and agencies.
• Recruit and coordinate qualified volunteers and coalition members.
• Complete duties timely as directed by the Prevention Supervisor.

Job description

Are you passionate about improving the quality of life in your community? Community and Family Resources is currently seeking a dedicated individual to serve as Prevention Specialist in Humboldt, Kossuth and Pocahontas counties. The grant is an initiative aimed at reducing tobacco use among the population through collaborative community partnerships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop service goals and objectives in conjunction with prevention team and prevention supervisor relative to specific funding source(s).
• Provide professional training to the public, community coalitions, area agencies, support groups, and schools in regard to prevention strategies. This includes training teachers, employers, human service personnel, and community members in prevention strategies which may be used to make changes in community attitudes and norms.
• Assist community coalitions in making environmental changes in their communities. This includes training coalition members on recruitment and community advocacy in regards to tobacco use.
• Maintain public relations between the agency prevention project and community resources.
• Provide group presentations in schools, industry, community groups and human services and other appropriate groups in the area of tobacco.
• Provide support, consultation, reinforcement and coordination to area communities, task forces, and agencies in an effort to unite and coordinate all funded programming requirements.
• Recruit and coordinate qualified volunteers and coalition members.
• Completed in a timely manner as directed by the Prevention Supervisor.

Schedule:

• Type: Full-time
• Hours: 40 hours each week, generally Monday-Friday, 8a-4:30p, and occasional evenings and weekends.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

• Associate's Degree in Education, Community Health, Human Services, or related field is required.
• Two years work experience in education, training, public relations, or community activism OR three years work experience in a human service agency is preferred.
• Must be a Certified Prevention Specialist or be able to obtain certification within 24 months from date of hire.
