Salary Range: $53,000.00 To $59,000.00 Annually

Sullivan 180 is currently recruiting for a Prevention Coordinator to support its work in substance use prevention. If you are an organized, energetic team player and have experience working with youth, we want to meet you! This position involves teaching the CATCH My Breath vaping prevention program throughout schools, after-school programs and youth settings in Sullivan. The right candidate will have a comfort level connecting with and inspiring young people. Being bi-lingual in Spanish is preferred and having a passion for working with community partners to empower the health of the next generation is a must.

Job Purpose

The Prevention Coordinator will work with schools and community organizations to build partnerships and implement evidence-based, substance-use prevention programs in schools and communities; or evidence-informed school and community education programs and campaigns for students, families, school employees, associations, community groups and others. The Prevention Coordinator will research and implement school-based or youth-focused programs or strategies that have demonstrated effectiveness in preventing substance misuse and seem likely to be effective in preventing the uptake and use of opioids. The Prevention Coordinator will also help train community volunteers, also known as Sullivan 180 Community Health Champions; both adults & teens, to broaden impact and reach more members of the community.

Specific duties include
  • Work with Community Development and Empowering a Healthier Generation team members to build school and community partnerships and implement initiatives and programs directly related to prevention and intervention; with an immediate focus on vaping and substance-use.
  • Support and participate actively in the Coalition for a Vape-Free Sullivan.
  • Serve on assigned project teams including drug free communities and school-based wellness committees as appropriate.
  • Support volunteers and. Community Health Champion Trains to further impact work on this issue.
  • Attend county committee meetings, with particular focus on the Sullivan County Drug Task Force and other substance-use prevention related initiatives.
  • Make presentations to student groups, parent groups, community organizations and others.
  • Contribute to grant reporting, media/marketing (including social media) and coalition planning.
  • Provide outreach/education about youth substance misuse to health educators, parent groups, guidance counselors and community organizations.
  • Encourage existing community events to promote prevention messages as part of entertainment, wellness, and recreation.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with youth
  • Organized and independent, diligent about following workplans and reporting on activities.
  • Organized, efficient and resourceful; with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Outgoing, creative, and with demonstrative initiative to establish community connections.
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Committed to improving community health and helping young people avoid tobacco and other substances.
  • Proficiency in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Familiarity with Sullivan County agencies and organizations preferred.
  • Prior experience working with volunteers preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
