Job summary

CARE of Southern Michigan is recruiting a Preventionist to support community-based efforts aimed at delaying the onset of substance use in youth. The role coordinates and assists with implementation of prevention strategies within local schools, engaging key community stakeholders to address environmental factors contributing to tobacco, alcohol and other drug use.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required; a Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology, consumer/community services, family studies, family and/or child development, guidance/school counseling, counseling psychology, education, public health, human services, or criminal justice is preferred.
• Must possess CPC-R or CPS certification or be eligible for a registered development plan and be timely in its implementation upon hire.
• Possess a valid motor vehicle operator license.

Responsibilities

• Market substance use presentations to schools, community, and faith-based organizations located in communities served by CARE of SEM.
• Provide training to coalition members on evidence-based substance use prevention community change models.
• Disseminate substance use information at health and public fairs, school open houses and other community events as requested.
• Demonstrates full comprehension of management by objective (MBO) plan and meets quality programmatic standards.
• Ability to adjust hours of work based on the community needs, including evening and weekend hours.
• Knowledgeable of national and local substance use and prevention statistics and demonstrates the ability to apply current trends to service delivery.
