GENERAL SUMMARY:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree in public health or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Three years of work experience in public health or related field, including experience in community-based collaboration.
  • Experience with grant management and reporting.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data.
  • Expert competency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Access, Word, Outlook.
  • Expert competency in data collection, analysis, management and reporting systems.
  • Expert competency in creating data reporting tools for diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience applying critical thinking and excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and project deadlines.
  • Demonstrate professional, appropriate, effective verbal and written communication skills and teaching ability.
  • Experience in planning, development, and implementation of sound process improvement solutions and participation in implementation of change.
  • Experience self-directing in a challenging and ambiguous environment
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate and coordinate the Drug Free Jackson (DFJ) Coalition, fostering collaboration among community partners, schools, healthcare organizations, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to advance countywide substance use prevention efforts.
  • Plan, conduct, and oversee annual tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis retailer (vendor) education and compliance check visits in partnership with local law enforcement to strengthen environmental prevention strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience engaging children and teens through meaningful youth education, co-design, co-facilitation, and/or school-based programming in K–12 settings or community contexts.
  • Experience implementing health communication plans, educational materials, multimedia content, or community awareness campaigns that translate public health concepts into engaging, actionable messages for diverse audiences including youth, parents, teachers, senior living communities, home health, veterans, nursing homes, pharmacies, and general public.
  • Holds an active Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) or a Certified Prevention Consultant (CPC) certification through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) OR upon hire, is willing to pursue a CPS certification (can take up to 2-years and does require an exam) while receiving supervision. Employer will cover associated costs to achieve certification and all training and continuing education requirements for CPS.
Working Conditions
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and be comfortable driving ~2,000 miles annually (January-August) to conduct vendor/retailer check and education for environmental prevention strategy activities. Reimbursement will be provided for mileage in alignment with the federally approved rate.
  • Must be able to transport, set up and tear down materials for tabling or tent community booth events throughout the year at locations across Jackson County.
  • This position is grant-funded, and responsibilities may evolve over time as community priorities, Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) findings, organizational initiatives, and funding opportunities change. While the current focus is substance use prevention, future projects may address other community health priorities based on identified needs and available funding. The successful candidate will be adaptable, collaborative, and excited to apply their skills across a variety of public health initiatives.
