Job summary

The University of Texas at Dallas seeks a dedicated Prevention and Survivor Support Specialist to develop and implement prevention and empowerment programs addressing sexual violence, IPV, stalking, and harassment. You will collaborate with Title IX, Counseling Services, University Police, and Student Affairs to integrate prevention, advocacy, and safety initiatives across the campus community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, higher education, counseling, social work, criminal justice, or related field with 1 year of related experience.
  • Master’s degree preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and assess evidence-based prevention programs related to sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, and harassment.
  • Facilitate workshops on bystander intervention, healthy relationships, consent, and trauma-informed responses.
  • Plan and execute violence prevention events each semester with large-scale engagement campaigns.
  • Lead campus awareness campaigns for key observances (Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, etc.).
  • Advocate for survivors and educate students about rights and reporting options across campus and community systems.
  • Coordinate referrals to counseling, legal aid, medical care, housing, and financial assistance.
  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, and ongoing case management.
  • Maintain knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, and survivor advocacy best practices.
  • Partner with University Police, Emergency Management, Student Health Center, Counseling, and Student Affairs to ensure integrated services.
  • Build connections with local law enforcement, courts, crisis centers, and community victim services to strengthen referrals.
  • Contribute to task forces, threat assessment, and campus safety committees as needed.
  • Support program assessment and reporting to demonstrate impact on campus safety and student well-being.

Job description

Plays a critical role in fostering a campus culture that prioritizes prevention, education, safety, and survivor-centered support. This position develops and implements comprehensive prevention and empowerment programs addressing sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, harassment, and other crimes that impact student well-being. The Specialist also serves as a resource and advocate for all students affected by crime, ensuring trauma-informed support, rights education, and referrals to campus and community resources. The Specialist will work in close collaboration with Title IX, Counseling Services, University Police, Student Affairs, and student organizations to integrate prevention, advocacy, and safety initiatives into the campus community.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field and One (1) year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in related field.

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS & ABILTY
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, victims’ rights, and evidence-based prevention.
  • Knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, and other state/federal victim rights protections.
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and coordinate victim support programs.
  • Ability to collaborate with law enforcement and student services on sensitive issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills.
  • Capacity to supervise peer educators and coordinate volunteers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular)
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prevention and Education
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of evidence-based prevention programs related to sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, and harassment.
  • Facilitates training sessions on bystander intervention, healthy relationships, consent, trauma-informed responses, and violence prevention strategies.
  • Plans and implements violence prevention events each semester, leading large-scale engagement campaigns to raise awareness and build a culture of care.
  • Leads campus awareness campaigns for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Stalking Awareness Month, Crime Victims’ Rights Week, and other prevention-focused observances.
  • Serves as an advocate for survivors of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, harassment, and other crimes such as theft and assault.
  • Educates students about their rights, reporting options (campus, civil, and criminal systems), and available support resources.
  • Coordinates referrals to counseling, legal aid, medical care, housing, and financial assistance.
  • Provides trauma-informed crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, and ongoing case management.
  • Maintain knowledge of state/federal laws, Title IX regulations, and best practices in survivor advocacy.
  • Partners with University Police, Emergency Management, Student Health Center, Student Affairs, and Counseling to ensure integrated prevention, advocacy, and victim support.
  • Builds connections with local law enforcement, courts, crisis centers, and community victim services providers to strengthen referral networks.
  • Contributes to task forces, threat assessment teams, and campus safety committees as needed.
  • Supports program assessment and reporting to demonstrate impact on campus safety, student well-being, and retention.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.

Remote Work Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
