Job summary

New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA) is seeking Pretrial Associates to interview arrestees in Central Booking, assist with bail procedures, and support release decisions to reduce unnecessary detention.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, one year of related experience, and strong communication. Most work is in-person across NYC courthouses; weekend/holiday shifts are possible.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; one year of related work experience.
• All college majors welcome; preference for criminal justice or related social science background.
• Associate degree preferred but not required; two+ years of comparable experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Interview recently arrested individuals in Central Booking to assess community ties and release recommendations.
• Conduct telephone verifications of information such as address and employment relevant to Release on Recognizance (ROR).
• Explain bail payment procedures and assist sureties with the bail process.
• Record interview responses into the agency database and determine release recommendations.
• Monitor arraignment outcomes and assist with bail when imposed; participate in Bail Expediting Program.
