Job summary

The New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA) is seeking a Pretrial Associate for the midnight shift in Queens. This in-person role supports the central booking process, interviewing arrestees, verifying information, and guiding bail decisions to facilitate timely releases.

Responsibilities include documenting interview data, applying standardized release assessments, and coordinating with court and agency partners to expedite bail where appropriate.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is required, plus one year of relevant work experience.
• An associate degree is preferred but not required.
• Candidates with two or more years of comparable experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Interview recently arrested individuals in Central Booking to determine community ties for release recommendations.
• Conduct telephone verifications of address, employment, and sureties.
• Explain bail procedures and assist with the bail payment process.
• Record interview responses into the agency database and determine release recommendations.
• Monitor arraignment outcomes and assist with bail when imposed.
• Participate in Bail Expediting Program and follow up with sureties to expedite bail payments.
