Job summary

Knape and Vogt Manufacturing Company in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Press Operator to join our manufacturing team on the 1st Shift (7:00am–3:00pm). You will operate precision slide presses, monitor feeding material, and keep production running safely and efficiently.

Ideal candidates bring press operator experience, mechanical aptitude, ability to read blueprints, and familiarity with inspection tools like calipers and micrometers.

Qualifications

• Previous press operator experience.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to read blueprints.
• Ability to use calipers, micrometers, gauges and comparators to verify parts.

Responsibilities

• Operate precision presses safely and consistently.
• Assist with tooling changes, material changes, adjustments, and machine setups.
• Identify defects such as incorrect bends, dimensional variation, burrs, cracks, scratches or other nonconforming conditions.
• Monitor the cycle performance, scrap, production quantities, downtime, and quality throughout the run.

What Will You Get To Do:

• Operate precision slide/multi-slide or four-slide presses safely and consistently, including starting, stopping, feeding material, and monitoring production
• Assist with performing tooling changes, material changes, adjustments, and machine setups
• Recognize defects such as incorrect bends, dimensional variation, burrs, cracks, scratches, deformation, or other nonconforming conditions
• Monitor the cycle performance, scrap, production quantities, downtime, and quality throughout the run

What Will You Bring:

• Previous experience using using calipers, micrometers, gauges, comparators, and other inspection equipment to verify parts meet specifications
• Basic reading, writing, computer and math skills
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand basic English

• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. while standing for long periods of time
