Job description

FamilyAid, Greater Boston’s largest agency focused on preventing and overcoming homelessness among families, is seeking a President & CEO to serve as the organization’s strategic and operational leader.

Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
  • Provide visionary, mission-driven, and results-oriented leadership for the organization.
  • Ensure all aspects—financial management, philanthropy, organizational culture and talent, and programming—align with FamilyAid’s mission.
  • Support staff, Board, partners and donors in their ability to drive impact for families and children.
Philanthropy & Financial Leadership
  • Serve as primary external fundraiser, stewarding existing relationships and building new ones.
  • Lead a $15M “For the Kids” fundraising campaign in partnership with the Chief Advancement Officer.
  • Steward a $25M–$30M operating budget across 10+ public contracts and private revenue streams.
  • Ensure strong fiscal management, forecasting and reporting.
Mission Stewardship & Program Excellence
  • Champion FamilyAid’s 2Gen model and ensure delivery of trauma-informed services that achieve lasting stability.
  • Oversee program innovation, compliance and community engagement strategies.
  • Guide cross-sector partnerships (e.g., Boston Public Schools, Boston Medical Center, CHIME).
  • Ensure continued growth in evaluation and learning systems to demonstrate impact.
Organizational Culture & People Leadership
  • Promote an inclusive, high-performance culture that retains top talent and supports frontline staff.
  • Ensure FamilyAid is a workplace where dignity, safety and collaboration are practiced daily.
  • Lead with clarity, transparency and consistency.
Strategy & Governance
  • Lead development and execution of strategic adaptive planning cycles aligned with FamilyAid’s mission, values and North Star.
  • Maintain a clear-eyed understanding of public policy shifts, economic trends and philanthropic landscapes.
  • Partner with the Board to drive governance excellence and organizational accountability.
  • Serve as an active Board member.
Public Leadership & Policy Advocacy
  • Influence public policies that expand support for children and families experiencing homelessness.
  • Represent FamilyAid as a trusted thought leader, advocate and spokesperson in local, state and national arenas.
  • Build and sustain high-impact relationships with elected officials, philanthropists, funders, media and civic partners.

  • Capacity to navigate complexity and operate effectively in nuanced environments.
  • Exceptional relationship-builder and communicator who inspires support.
  • Experience navigating complex public funding and contracts to create new revenue opportunities.
  • Experience influencing policy at state and city level preferred.
Inspiring, Inclusive, People-First Leader
  • Experience leading a diverse multi-layered team with a culture reflecting organizational values.
  • Commitment to inclusive leadership focusing on equity and access to opportunity.
  • Systems-thinker who drives the organization toward future-oriented, operationally focused performance.
Management & Business Acumen
  • Experience managing $20M+ budgets, public contracts and large-scale fundraising.
  • Track record of creating, implementing or advancing infrastructure for team success.
  • Expert ability to set clear priorities, delegate responsibility, ensure accountability and drive success.
Credentials & Experience
  • At least 15 years of leadership experience in anti-poverty, human services or public-sector organizations.
  • Master’s degree in public administration, nonprofit management, social work, urban policy or related field preferred.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $250,000 to $285,000. FamilyAid offers a competitive executive compensation package including hybrid work flexibility; health, dental and vision insurance; health savings account; flexible spending account; 403(b) with employer match; generous paid time off; professional growth support; life insurance; and employee assistance program.

Location

The position is hybrid, requiring significant physical presence at FamilyAid headquarters (3815 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02130) and with Boston-based funders and collaborators. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
