Job description

The Role

The Money Management Institute (MMI) is seeking its next President & Chief Executive Officer to lead the premier trade association representing the investment advisory solutions industry.

MMI is a member-supported enterprise representing many of the most influential firms in wealth and asset management. It operates with the discipline, accountability, and performance expectations of a business— because its members expect measurable value, not activity.

This is not a stewardship role. The next CEO will be expected to elevate the institution’s relevance, sharpen its strategic voice, and deliver measurable growth in member value and engagement.

The CEO serves at the intersection of industry leadership, governance complexity, and business execution. Success requires sound judgment, an inclusive approach that values diverse perspectives, and the ability to make decisions that are informed by—but not beholden to—consensus.

The Mandate
  • Own and execute the continuation of a multi-year strategy that strengthens MMI’s position as the leading voice in advisory solutions
  • Continue to deliver sustained growth in member value, engagement, and revenue across all lines of the business
  • Maintain strategic continuity despite annually rotating Board leadership and shifting member priorities
  • Elevate MMI’s influence across the broader financial services ecosystem
  • Build and lead a high-performing organization aligned to clear priorities and measurable outcomes
  • Build an organization with decisions acknowledging continuity and sustainability
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Execution

  • Define, own, and execute a clear multi-year strategy aligned with structural shifts in the advisory solutions ecosystem
  • Anticipate and act on industry changes—regulatory, technological, and demographic
  • Make explicit trade-offs and allocate resources against highest-value opportunities

Governance & Institutional Leadership

  • Translate Board governance input into focused tactical priorities and measurable outcomes
  • Lead in partnership with an annually rotating Chair and Board while maintaining strategic consistency
  • Shape agendas, frame decisions, and advise the Board on its strategic governance responsibilities
  • Navigate competing member perspectives without losing alignment
  • Reinforce a culture of member ownership, not customer preference

Revenue Ownership & Business Performance

  • Own the Institute’s economic model and performance across all revenue streams
  • Set growth priorities, pricing discipline, and investment levels with ROI expectations
  • Ensure rigorous budgeting, cost control, and capital allocation
  • Define and communicate measures of member value and impact

Industry Leadership & External Presence

  • Serve as a knowledgeable and authoritative voice for the advisory solutions industry
  • Lead conferences and executive forums with enthusiasm and charisma
  • Engage with a broad range of stakeholders including industry leaders, regulators, and media
  • Expand MMI’s reach to new members and vendors and new areas of business focus while reinforcing its core membership and positions

Talent, Culture & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Build and upgrade a high-performing team
  • Set expectations, hold leaders accountable, and make changes when needed
  • Establish a culture of ownership and execution
  • Align resources and structure to deliver results
    Candidate Profile

    Industry Fluency

    • 25+ years of leadership experience in the wealth and asset management business
    • Deep understanding of advisory solutions industry dynamics
    • Deep understanding of technological platforms for advice including the impact of large language models and tokenization
    • Extensive experience in alternatives investment strategies and vehicles and how they are being integrated in solutions models
    • Ability to anticipate trends in wealth and asset management industry evolution

    Executive Leadership & Accountability

    • 15+ years of senior leadership and P&L responsibilities with direct accountability for outcomes
    • Extensive client facing track record
    • Decisive and accountable leadership style

    Governance & Organizational Intelligence

    • Track record operating within complex stakeholder environments
    • Experience working with boards where influence must be earned
    • Track record of the ability to make leadership decisions where competing viewpoints are in conflict, while bringing all parties together as participants in the process

    Strategic & Financial Judgment

    • Prior track record in strategy and corporate development leadership
    • Career training in finance with a track record creatively using financial data in planning and decision making
    • Disciplined, outcome-focused decision-maker with a track record being decisive in the face of incomplete or conflicting data

    Communication & Presence

    • Clear communicator with ability to engage the most senior level senior executives
    • Strong public speaking skills
    • High impact executive presence grounded in substance

    Personal Characteristics

    • High integrity and sound judgment
    • Strong ego tempered by high self-awareness, humbleness and a good sense of humor
    • Comfortable operating in ambiguity
    • High intellectual curiosity and learning agility
    • Skilled at leveraging the diversity of different points of view
    • Ability to travel a minimum of 100 days per year in managing this fully virtual business platform and be in member and vendor offices regularly
    Bottom Line

This role requires a leader who can operate at the C Suite industry level, manage governance complexity, and run a disciplined business simultaneously. The Board is committed to supporting a CEO who will set direction, make decisions, and deliver results.
