Job summary

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS in Williamsburg, VA is seeking a part-time Preschool Teacher Assistant to support teachers in daily class activities, monitor student behavior, and assist with classroom routines.

The role includes observing and reporting on students, helping with activities, and ensuring student safety and care in a pre-kindergarten setting. Strong communication and confidentiality required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in nursing, childcare, or special education preferred.
• Ability to supervise and teach students.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff and parents.
• Must have completed 60 semester hours or higher, or an associate degree, or pass ParaPro.

Responsibilities

• Implements instruction activities as prescribed by the teacher for individual children's programs.
• Attends to daily record keeping such as attendance and lunch money.
• Prepares classroom materials to fit needs of children and assist with decorating.
• Observes and records data on student progress and behavior.
• Assists with safe transfer of students on buses and with braces or adaptive equipment.
• Supports personal care and hygiene of students per safety procedures.
• Responds to medical needs including seizures or respiratory issues.
• Maintains student safety in teacher's absence.
• Assists with snacks and storytelling per lesson plans.
• Escorts children to activities and ensures safe exit in emergencies.
• Participates in in-services to improve skills.
