Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta seeks a Preschool Teacher Assistant to work with the Preschool Lead Teacher in planning and conducting learning experiences in a cooperative, supportive environment.

Responsibilities include organizing centers, maintaining a safe and engaging classroom, supervising children, and assisting with lesson planning and family communications. Preference for candidates pursuing a CDA or related degree within two years of hire.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
• While performing duties, ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull and carry objects or children up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Organize classroom space into functional areas in collaboration with the teacher.
• Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe classroom environment.
• Supervise children indoors and outdoors at all times.
• Observe and assess children and refer concerns to the teacher as needed.
• Prepare in advance interactive lesson plans and materials.
• Follow the daily schedule ensuring activities are developmentally appropriate.
• Assist in documenting child progress and maintaining records.
• Engage with families through home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
