Job summary

Ascension Episcopal Day School in Norfolk, VA is accepting applications for a part-time Assistant Teacher in our 3-year-old classroom. Work hours are 12:30-6:00. Pay is $15 per hour.

The Assistant Teacher will support the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing, creative learning environment for up to 14 children, ages 3. We are an early education center with high expectations for quality interactions between teachers and students.

Qualifications

• One year of experience working with children.
• Some college-level courses in early education or a related field.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating classroom.
• Assist in the implementation of curriculum conducive to the cognitive, physical, social, creative, and emotional development of young learners.
• Actively engage students in activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, movement, and problem-solving for 4-year-olds.
• Model developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques.
• Assist in maintaining attendance and childcare records.
• Work cooperatively as a team and attend staff meetings.
• Participate in staff development and stay current on child development practices.
• Maintain open and friendly relationships with each child's family.
• Assist with health practices including cleaning/sterilizing the classroom and basic childcare routines.

Our program is designed to cultivate the cognitive, social, physical, creative, and emotional development of each child in a caring educational environment.The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for helping the Lead Teacher develop and maintain a nurturing and creative learning community for up to 14 children ages 3 years old. We are an early education center not a day care and we have high expectations for quality interactions between teachers and students.

What You'll Do

• Assist with school health practices including cleaning/sterilizing the classroom throughout the day and basic childcare routines such as diapering, cleaning noses, and washing hands.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The successful candidate should have the following
• qualifications (preferred):
• One year of experience working with children.
• Some college-level courses in early education or a related field
• or early education training including knowledge of early education teaching
• methods and child development theory.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
