Job summary

Ascension Episcopal Day School in Norfolk, VA is seeking a part-time Preschool 2's Assistant Teacher. Work hours are approximately 9:30 to 6:00 with potential for additional hours.

The Assistant Teacher will be part of a three-person team caring for fourteen 2-year-old children, with pay at $15 per hour. The successful candidate should have experience with young children, some college-level courses in early education (preferred), and knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children in an early education setting.
• Some college-level courses in early education or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of early education teaching methods and child development theory.
• Effective oral and written communication and ability to work with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating and maintaining a safe, stimulating classroom environment.
• Follow health procedures including diapering, handwashing, cleanup of classroom and toys.
• Assist in implementing curriculum promoting cognitive, physical, social, creative, spiritual and emotional development.
• Engage children in activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, movement, decision-making and problem-solving.
• Model developmentally appropriate behavior management.
• Maintain attendance and childcare records for the classroom.
• Work cooperatively as a team member and communicate information consistently.
• Participate in staff development and stay current on child development practices.
• Maintain open and friendly relationships with each child's family.
