Job summary

Ascension Episcopal Day School is seeking a part-time Assistant Teacher for our 3-year-old classroom, with a 12:30-6:00 schedule. The role focuses on supporting the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing, creative learning environment for up to 14 children, ages 3 years.

We emphasize high-quality interactions and developmentally appropriate practices. Ideal candidates have at least one year of experience with children and some college coursework in early education, plus strong communication skills

Qualifications

• One year of experience working with children.
• Some college-level courses in early education or related field.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating and maintaining a safe, stimulating classroom.
• Support curriculum to promote cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.
• Engage students in activities appropriate to 3–4 year olds.
• Model developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques.
• Maintain attendance and childcare records.
• Work cooperatively with staff and attend meetings.
• Participate in staff development and stay current on child development practices.
• Foster positive relationships with families and provide professional conduct.

About This Role

Ascension Episcopal Day School is accepting applications for a part-time Assistant Teacher in our 3-year-old classroom. Work hours are 12:30-6:00. Pay is currently $15 per hour. Ascension Day School serves children ages 6 weeks thru 5 years. Our program is designed to cultivate the cognitive, social, physical, creative, and emotional development of each child in a caring educational environment. The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for helping the Lead Teacher develop and maintain a nurturing and creative learning community for up to 14 children ages 3 years old. We are an early education center not a day care and we have high expectations for quality interactions between teachers and students.

What You'll Do

• Assist in the creation and maintenance of a safe and stimulating
• classroom environment.
• Assist in the implementation of curriculum conductive to the
• cognitive, physical, social, creative, and emotional development of young
• children.
• Actively engage students in activities and explorations that encourage curiosity, creativity, movement, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of 4-year-olds.
• Model developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques.
• Assist in the maintenance of attendance and childcare records
• for the classroom.
• Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by
• communicating information on a continuous basis and attending staff meetings.
• Participate in staff development opportunities and maintain
• knowledge of current child development practices.
• Consistently maintain open and friendly relationships with each child's family.
• Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
• Assist with school health practices including cleaning/sterilizing the classroom throughout the day and basic childcare routines such as diapering, cleaning noses, and washing hands.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• The successful candidate should have the following
• qualifications (preferred):
• One year of experience working with children.
• Some college-level courses in early education or a related field
• or early education training including knowledge of early education teaching
• methods and child development theory.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
