Description

The YMCA of Greater Boston is searching for a Preschool Sports Instructor to lead sports classes for children aged 2-6 years old. Classes are scheduled on weekday afternoons and weekend mornings. The candidate must have excellent child/parent communication skills, expertise in various sports, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coach sports programs using provided and personal curriculum emphasizing skill development, sportsmanship, and YMCA's core values of Caring, Honest, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Demonstrate skills and outcomes to foster learning and development for children aged 2-6.
  • Maintain focus and positive redirection during activities.
  • Adapt coaching to the child's age and skill level, challenging them appropriately.
  • Ensure safety by following guidelines and creating an age-appropriate play environment.
  • Prepare for classes by reviewing skills, setting up, and cleaning up activities.
  • Provide real-time feedback and use positive encouragement.
  • Serve as a role model for expected behavior.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, sharing updates and information.
  • Keep accurate attendance records.
  • Follow policies for attendance, participation, and safety.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and YMCA events as required.
  • Engage with families, children, and staff to be a positive YMCA representative.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Education & Experience
  • 1-2 years related experience preferred, e.g., coaching or volunteering.
  • CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Child Abuse Prevention Training (provided upon hire).
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong relationship-building and conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective coaching with clear instructions and motivation.
  • Organized with good planning skills.
  • Ability to manage groups of children.
