Job summary

The Chester County Intermediate Unit is hiring part-time Preschool Special Education Instructional Assistants to support students in our Division of Student Services. This role offers the chance to contribute to early education across multiple site locations within Chester County, PA.

• Willingness to work with preschool special education students.
• Current police, child abuse & FBI fingerprint clearances.
• MA provider clearance by PA and federal government upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing basic skills under teacher direction.
• Perform duties as directed by the teacher.
• Provide 1:1 or small group instruction as needed.
• Assist with toileting and other basic care.
• Sit, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, stand, and walk as part of duties.
• Assist with positioning students with physical disabilities as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required
• Associates degree or higher or completion of two (2) years of post-secondary education or 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university preferred
• Willingness to work with students in preschool special education program required
• Current police, child abuse & FBI fingerprint clearances
• Clearance as an MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and federal government (conducted by CCIU upon hire)

Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for assisting in the implementation of basic skills
• Performing duties as directed by the teacher
• Duties may include 1:1 instruction and small group instruction
• Toileting and other basic care
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, stand, and walk
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. May include positioning of students with physical disabilities. The weight and ability of students requiring assistance may vary greatly, all students are 3-6 years old.

Schedule

• 7.5 hours a day (8 AM - 3:30 PM)
• Monday - Thursday
• The preschool calendar is year round, with 2-3 week break in June and again in August. The Preschool program runs in July.

• Child and Career Development Center - Engle Campus: 107 Schoolhouse Road, West Grove, PA 19390

Hourly Rate (2026-2027 School Year)

• 0 - 9 yrs experience = $19.38
• 10 - 13 yrs experience = $21.29
• 14 - 17 yrs experience = $23.19
• 18 - 25 yrs experience = $25.11
• *Bachelor's degree is equivalent to 9 yrs experience on the scale = $19.38
• *Master's degree is equivalent to 15 yrs experience on the scale = $23.19
