Job summary

Glen Ridge Board Of Education is seeking a Paraprofessional (Preschool Special Education) to support classroom teachers in the district's special education program. The role involves direct student assistance, data collection, and collaboration with staff to foster learning and development.

Responsibilities include assisting with daily activities, small-group instruction, field-trips supervision, and language development support, under supervision.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma; college-level coursework in education or related field.
• Minimum experience as determined by the board.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and school staff.
• Knowledge of diverse needs of children with disabilities and appropriate special education classroom practices.
• Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
• Substitute teacher certification recommended

Responsibilities

• Assist in taking care of the physical needs of the special education pupil, including dressing, movement, mealtime support, and toileting.
• Assist with individualized instruction and work with small groups under the supervision of the special education teacher.
• Collect data to be used by the child study team.
• Support in implementing behavior intervention plans as assigned.
• Assist in loading/unloading the pupil from transportation buses or vans as appropriate.
• Complete clerical duties as assigned by the special education teacher.
• Assist pupils with projects, crafts, and curriculum tasks.
• Help supervise children on field trips planned by the teacher.
• Provide playground supervision.
• Engage children in conversation to encourage language development.
• Aid physically handicapped children with appliances and prosthetics as needed.
• Report any suspicion of child abuse to the Division of Child Protection and Permanency and building Principal.
• Perform other duties related to a good learning experience for special education pupils.
