Job summary

Responsibilities

• Assist with individualized instruction and work with small groups under the supervision of the special education teacher.
• Collect data to be used by the child study team.
• Support in implementing behavior intervention plans as assigned.
• Assist in loading/unloading the pupil from transportation buses or vans as appropriate.
• Complete clerical duties as assigned by the special education teacher.
• Assist pupils with projects, crafts, and curriculum tasks.
• Help supervise children on field trips planned by the teacher.
• Provide playground supervision.
• Engage children in conversation to encourage language development.
• Aid physically handicapped children with appliances and prosthetics as needed.
• Report any suspicion of child abuse to the Division of Child Protection and Permanency and building Principal.
• Perform other duties related to a good learning experience for special education pupils.

REPORTS TO:Certified classroom teacher, Principal and Director of Student Services

JOB GOAL:To assist the classroom teacher by working with individual and small groups of disabled students to provide them with physical help and emotional support as needed to gain optimum benefit from the district's special education program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist in taking care of the physical needs of the special education pupil. This can include putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room, mealtime support and using the lavatory (this may include diapering, toilet training and toileting).

2. Assists with individualized instruction and works with small groups of students under the supervision of the special education teacher to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.

3. Collects data to be used by the child study team

4. Supports in the implementation of behavior intervention plans, as assigned.

5. Assists, where appropriate, in loading and unloading the special education pupil from transportation buses or vans.

6. Completes clerical duties as assigned by the special education classroom teacher.

7. Assists pupils with various projects, crafts, and curriculum tasks.

9. Assists in playground supervision.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of noncertified staff.
