Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma; college course work in education or related field.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
• Knowledge of diverse needs of children with disabilities and appropriate special education classroom practices.
• Criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.
• Substitute teacher certification recommended.

Responsibilities

• Assist with physical needs and daily activities for students.
• Assist with individualized instruction and small-group work under supervision.
• Collect data to monitor student progress.
• Support implementation of behavior intervention plans as assigned.
• Assist with loading/unloading pupils from transportation as needed.
• Complete clerical duties as assigned by the special education teacher.
• Assist pupils with projects and curriculum tasks.
• Supervise children on field trips and playground.
• Encourage language development through conversation with students.
• Aide children using appliances and prosthetics as needed.
• Report suspected child abuse to the proper authorities.
