Job summary

The Allegheny Intermediate Unit is seeking a dedicated Paraprofessional to support students with special needs across instructional and daily activities. You will assist with transportation, classroom tasks, and use of assistive technology to facilitate individualized instruction.

Responsibilities include helping students with mobility, feeding when needed, and implementing behavior support plans under supervision. Strong teamwork and communication are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 college credits or a BSE Credential of Competency obtained within 90 days of employment.
• 1-2 years' experience working with children with special needs strongly preferred.
• Training in crisis intervention, CPR and First Aid preferred.
• Ability to work as part of the educational team.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
• Ability to prioritize identified needs of students per IEP directives.
• Experience working with preschool age children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist children to and from the bus at arrival and departure times.
• Assist students in bathroom activities and with mobility as needed.
• Prepare and operate instructional equipment and materials.
• Assist in emergencies and notify supervisor.
• Maintain classroom health guidelines and organize materials.
• Update attendance records and data while protecting confidentiality.
• Assist students with assistive technology devices and computers used for instruction.
• Communicate with children, teachers, therapists, and supervisors via multiple channels.
