Job summary

The Allegheny Intermediate Unit is seeking a Preschool Early Intervention Paraprofessional to support students with special needs in a classroom setting. Responsibilities include assisting with bus duties, bathroom and transitions, and operating instructional materials under supervision, while ensuring health and safety guidelines.

Requirements include an Associate degree or 60 credits (or a BSE credential) and 1–2 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 credits or a BSE Credential obtained within 90-days of employment.
• 1-2 years' experience working with children with special needs preferred.
• Crisis intervention, CPR and First Aid training preferred.
• Ability to work as part of the educational team.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
• Ability to prioritize identified needs of students per classroom directives and IEP goals.
• Experience with preschool age children preferred.
• Reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Assist children to and from the bus at arrival and departure times.
• Assist students with bathroom, dressing, and transitions as needed.
• Prepare and operate instructional equipment and materials as directed by teachers/therapists.
• Maintain classroom health guidelines and safe procedures.
• Update attendance records and data collection as required.
• Communicate effectively with children, teachers, therapists, and supervisors via verbal, written, and e-mail.
• Follow IEPs and behavior plans and support teacher with students needing intervention.
