Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools seeks an instructional assistant to support the VPI teacher in delivering the early childhood program. The role includes supervising children, helping with activities, and preparing meals as part of daily routines.

The position requires a High School diploma or higher, parental and federal background clearances, and the ability to work with young children in a collaborative school setting. Salary ranges and benefits are provided by the district.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of early childhood development principles and best practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with preschool children, parents, students and staff.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and in high-pressure situations.
• Ability to work cooperatively with the VPI teacher to develop and implement activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist preschool teacher with safe arrival and departure of children.
• Supervise children during center activities and help develop instructional materials.
• Carry out activities with small groups, including plan, do, review, and social skills.
• Prepare meals for children and supervise during meals.
• Monitor behavior and enforce rules.
• Participate in home visits and parent workshops as appropriate.
• Attend training and staff development sessions.
