Job summary

West Hills Community College District is seeking an Associate Teacher for the Child Development Center in California. The temporary substitute role involves delivering age-appropriate preschool instruction and coordinating activities with parents and staff.

You will plan lessons, monitor student progress, maintain safety, and collaborate with teachers to support young learners. A focus on developmentally appropriate practices and strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• 12 units of Early Childhood Education/Child Development, including core courses.
• 50 days of instructional experience in a childcare and development program, three hours/day in the last two years.
• Must be enrolled and maintain continued enrollment in coursework leading to a BA/BS degree in Child Development or related field, and 36 units of Child Development or ECE.

Responsibilities

• Plans and provides meaningful learning and developmental activities for preschool classes, enhancing mental, physical, emotional, and social development.
• Participates in parent education activities related to program requirements.
• Develops monthly lesson plans with input from coworkers and maintains a safe classroom environment.
• Inspects equipment and learning devices to ensure safety.
• Communicates with parents; holds conferences and home visits as needed.
• Prepares individual education plans and assesses student progress; documents achievement for each child.
• Organizes events, field trips, and coordination with District services.
• Serves as a resource regarding early childhood and curriculum for staff.
• Delivers instruction using clear oral and written communication; adapts materials for diverse learners.
