Job summary

Taft College's Childrens Center seeks an Associate Teacher to support teachers and caregivers in a classroom setting, indoors or on a controlled playground. You will supervise play, prepare materials, maintain order, and assist with meals and self-care for young children.

This part-time role (19 hours/week, 12 months) does not include district benefits. Requires a valid CTC permit or higher and ECE coursework; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 50 days of 3 hours per day within two years of verifiable professional childcare experience.
  • Must currently have and maintain a valid Child Development Associate Teacher permit, or higher, from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Permit must be provided within 95 days of employment per Ed Code 8360.2.
  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in the classification, however, employees may perform other related duties not listed and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee.


  • Assist teachers and primary caregivers as directed.

  • Assist with meals and snack service. Perform related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 50 days of 3 hours per day within two years of verifiable professional childcare experience.
  • Must currently have and maintain a valid Child Development Associate Teacher permit, or higher,
  • from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Permit must be provided within 95 days of employment per Ed Code 8360.2.
  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual: English/Spanish
  • Experience working with young children and their families in a professional setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of a current pediatric CPR and first aid certificate or ability to obtain one through an accredited or approved program within the first 6 months of employment.
  • 3 semester units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD) in an \"Infancy\" development course.

ENVIRONMENT

Work is generally performed indoors in a classroom setting or outdoors on a controlled childrens' playground, but may involve various workshops and meetings offsite.


PAY RANGE

Range 5 on the Classified Employees Salary Schedule/Non-Exempt ($19.95-$23.23)


HOURS AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This position is 19 hours per week for 12 months per year (hours to be determined).


This is a part-time position and is not eligible for participation in District benefits.
