Job summary

Haywood Community College's Regional Center for the Advancement of Children is seeking a Substitute Assistant Teacher to support daily activities for a PreK group, promoting high-quality care and wellbeing. Responsibilities include assisting the Lead Teacher, planning indoor/outdoor activities, and maintaining a safe, clean environment.

The role is 29 hours per week, Monday–Friday 8:15AM–2:15PM, temporary. Associates in Early Childhood Education or current enrollment preferred; strong

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or enrolled in Early Childhood Associates Program in good standing.
• Professional level of educational theory, child development and teaching skills.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Capable of relating to diverse age and demographic backgrounds.
• Physical ability sufficient to frequently bend, stoop and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to learn procedures and regulations specific to the care and education of infants and children.
• Willingness to learn necessary skills and knowledge and to strive for continuous improvement.
• Demonstrate diplomacy, tact and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teacher in planning and carrying out daily indoor and outdoor activities.
• Prepare and serve meals and snacks.
• Help children and families feel secure in the center.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment and communicate with staff, parents and children.
• Support licensure and Five Star Compliance and supervise the group as needed.
• Adhere to Health and Sanitation practices in the classroom.
• Participate in staff meetings and required trainings.
• Assist with prep and closing of PreK sessions.
