Job summary

Swampscott Public Schools is seeking a .75 Educational Support Professional (ESP) for Preschool to assist students with disabilities in multiple settings, including general and special education classrooms, playgrounds, and field trips.

Responsibilities include supporting communication, social-emotional behavior, academics, and daily living activities, collaborating with the special education liaison and building administrator, and participating in professional development.

Qualifications

• 2 year college degree or paraeducator certification
• Pass ParaPro test
• At least 2 excellent references
• Must pass CORI, SAFIS fingerprinting, and 1-9 eligibility to work in the U.S.
• Experience with children in educational setting preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide communication, social-emotional behavior, academic, motor, and/or ADL support to students across settings
• Maintain organized classroom environment to support instructional program
• Settings include general education, special education, playgrounds, cafeteria, hallways, field trips, gym, etc.
• Communicate effectively with all school staff and potentially family members
• Provide a positive learning environment
• Assist the teacher to foster interest and curiosity in children
• Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by the teacher
• Respect confidentiality of teachers, students, and families
• Maintain knowledge of school routines and emergency procedures
• Assist in emergencies and in implementing behavioral support plans
• Assist in classroom management during dismissal and field trips
• Attend professional development and staff meetings
• Take responsibility for assigned tasks with professionalism
• Actively listen and respond respectfully to colleagues
