Job summary

Save the Children is seeking an Assistant Teacher for our Head Start program in Jennings, LA. You will assist the Teacher to promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth while supporting daily classroom operations.

Requirements include a CDA credential or current CDA pathway, strong English skills, and a commitment to safeguarding children. You will engage families and ensure compliance with Head Start standards.

Qualifications

• Requires a CDA credential or enrollment in a CDA program to be completed within two years of hire.
• Proficient in spoken and written English with strong communication skills.
• Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start program and high quality service delivery.
• Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational and teamwork abilities; ability to take initiative.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of family information and use computer systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Start Teacher in daily operations and instruction for preschoolers.
• Support safety and supervision of children during activities and transitions.
• Help plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate activities.
• Foster family partnerships and facilitate parent engagement opportunities.
• Maintain classroom routines, record observations, and participate in meetings.
• Share responsibility in health, nutrition, and self-help skills development.
