Job summary

YMCA Preschool in San Diego is seeking a Preschool Aide to assist in supervising children ages 3-5 and to plan and implement engaging activities. The role runs Monday through Friday, 9:30am–3:30pm, serving 2–5 year olds in a supportive YMCA environment.

Responsibilities include helping the Preschool Teacher, maintaining safety, communicating with families, and assisting with housekeeping and meal prep. Required trainings and immunizations must be completed promptly.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate.
• 3 units in Early Childhood Development required within 120 days of employment.
• Criminal background clearance by fingerprinting prior to reporting to work.
• Completion of Child Abuse Prevention online training prior to working with participants.
• Health and Safety training within 60 days of hire.
• TB test and physical within 7 days of hire.
• Proof of immunizations (MMR, Tdap, influenza) within 7 days of hire.
• Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervise participants, ensuring their guidance and safety.
• Assist the Preschool Teacher in supervision and implementation of the daily program.
• Communicate in a positive manner to all participants, parents, community members and co-workers.
• Maintain a professional demeanor to uphold YMCA image and mission statement.
• Interact with participants with dignity and respect according to the YMCA Code of Conduct.
• Assist in housekeeping of the program space and food preparation.
• Follow emergency procedures to ensure safety of participants and staff.
• Respond to incidents with visual and auditory alertness and be physically capable in emergencies.
• Lead and participate in active sports and games; monitor behavior and curriculum activities.
• Relate well to children and adults, providing leadership and stability for program continuity.
• Be dependable and flexible with daily schedule.
• Maintain a warm, friendly personality with sensitivity to a diverse population.
• Fulfill responsibilities in line with program and branch goals.
