Position Type: Full‑time, non‑exempt, starting at $17 per hour
Responsibilities
- Full‑time prep cook assisting with the food program at our Sleep Walk location, preparing breakfast items for delivery to Chicago cafes.
- Chocolate production duties, including processing cacao, tempering, molding, and storing chocolate.
- Inventory management, order fulfillment, and communication with retail and chocolate teams.
- Effective time management and self‑motivation to meet service standards.
- Food prep: washing, peeling, chopping ingredients, preparing sauces, doughs, and other recipes to Adios Amigos standards.
- Cook and assemble quick service food to order; restock items for grab‑n‑go cases.
- Properly store food to maintain quality and freshness; organize storage areas and kitchen.
- Label and stock all ingredients.
- Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and removing trash.
- Deliver products to DMC retail locations in Chicago.
- Participate in chocolate operations from raw to finished product: filling/emptying refiners, tempering, molding, and packaging.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work floor; manage product and supply inventory, maintain pars, and fulfill outgoing orders.
- Comply with quality control standards and procedures, including weekly tastings and data entry in Google Sheets.
- Take inventory of supplies and ingredients; place orders with vendors as needed.
- Implement directives from the supervisor, communicate, and coordinate with coworkers to ensure task completion.
- Monitor incoming communication via DMC email and Sleep Walk BOH email.
- Familiarity with safe and sanitary food handling; certification in food handling or ServSafe.
- Follow safety guidelines, including periodic reviews of safety procedures.
- Adhere to strict FIFO procedures for products and proper storage conditions.
- Participate in regular cleaning and sanitization procedures for machinery and production space, including scheduled deep cleaning.
Qualifications
- At least one year of kitchen or kitchen/pastry experience.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively while working independently.
- Physical requirements: climb stairs or ladders, lift up to 60 pounds, and stand for 8‑hour shifts.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are a plus.
