Job summary

KIPP NYC is hiring a Prep Cook for its Culinary Team in New York City. You will support breakfast, lunch, and snack prep for school communities, adhering to food safety standards and recipes.

The role emphasizes teamwork, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving healthy meals every day. This is a full-time, on-site position based at a KIPP NYC campus in the Bronx, Brooklyn, or Manhattan, with on-site work five days weekly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or school nutrition is preferred.
• Food safety knowledge or willingness to learn is required.
• Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment and safe food prep techniques preferred.
• Food Handler's Certification preferred but not required on hire.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, and other menu components according to recipes.
• Assist with breakfast, lunch, snack prep and events.
• Portion and serve meals with customer-focused service.
• Maintain knowledge of menu items, ingredients and allergens.
• Support catering events and other culinary initiatives.
• Ensure kitchen cleanliness and food safety throughout shifts.
• Collaborate with the team to ensure efficient meal service.
