Job summary

Proof of the Pudding, the exclusive food & beverage partner for Zoo Atlanta’s Special Events, seeks Prep Cooks to support events and kitchen operations. Prep Cooks are mainly responsible for mass food production, kitchen cleanliness, and assisting leadership as directed.

The culinary team emphasizes precise prep, station setup, and timely execution in a dynamic event environment. This part-time role requires 1+ year kitchen experience and a High School Diploma/GED.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience working in a kitchen; catering is preferred.
  • Knowledge of food preparation/food service; understanding of BEOs and production sheets.
  • Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner.
  • Customer service focus; planning and multi-tasking.
  • Strong verbal communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up and sanitizing workstations.
  • Following prep lists created by lead culinary.
  • Measuring ingredients and preparing cooking ingredients.
  • Preparing dishes as directed by the Executive Chef.
  • Storing food items properly and maintaining kitchen cleanliness.
  • Assisting chefs and attending to culinary tasks as needed.
  • Maintaining appropriate temperatures and sanitation.
  • Accepting or rejecting ingredients from suppliers.
  • On-the-job training and uniform compliance.

Proof of the Pudding is the proud and exclusive food & beverage partner for Zoo Atlanta’s Special Events, where elegant spaces meet wild places. Zoo Atlanta not only is home to a wide variety of animals; it is also home to some of the most stylish and unique event spaces in Atlanta.

The culinary team at Zoo Atlanta is seeking additional Prep Cooks/Event Chefs to help facilitate events and to provide culinary support in the kitchen. Prep Cooks are primarily responsible for mass food production, kitchen cleanliness, and assisting the executive chef and culinary leadership as directed.

Responsibilities
  • Setting up and sanitizing workstations.
  • Following prep lists created by lead culinary.
  • Measuring ingredients and seasonings and preparing cooking ingredients such as soup stock to be used in the cooking process.
  • Preparing dishes as directed by the Executive Chef.
  • Ensuring all food items are properly stored and easily accessible.
  • Assisting chefs in preparing food and attending to any culinary tasks that arise.
  • Supervising food and cooling room temperatures.
  • Accepting or rejecting ingredients from suppliers.
  • Maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitized kitchen.
  • Maintaining the highest level of food quality with your culinary team.
  • Ensure proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen/food service areas

Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
  • 1+ year of experience working in a kitchen, experience in catering is preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of food preparation/food service with a strong understanding of the execution of BEOs, reading production sheets, and completing tasks.

Work Environment

This position will consist of event attendance, preparation, assist with set up, and breakdown. This position work mostly out of and mainly stay within Zoo Atlanta but may travel to other venues within the region.

Uniform Requirements

Adherence to Company Uniform Requirements outlined in the Associate Handbook, uniform requirements outlined in your orientation guidelines.

Non-slip shoes are necessary.

Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of moving through an event space, and traveling throughout the stadium
  • Bending, lifting, scooping, and carrying miscellaneous equipment and food items
  • Manual dexterity to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils.
  • Must be able to lift up-to 40 pounds at times.
