Job summary

Hebrew-Seniorlife-5 is seeking a kitchen assistant to store, prepare, and portion meals for daily service at our on-site facility in Massachusetts. You will follow approved recipes, assist cooks, stock supplies, and help with dishwashing and cleanup as needed.

The role requires at least one year of direct food service experience; hands-on activity is essential. You will work with food storage, meal packaging for morning delivery, and ensure equipment and supplies are maintained.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of direct food service operation experience.
• Hands-on experience required.
• Ability to follow recipes and supervisor instructions.

Responsibilities

• Store food in containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage.
• Prepare dishes according to supervisors’ instructions and approved procedures.
• Pack hot meals daily for morning delivery.
• Package cold meals for next day’s service.
• Place food trays over warmers or refrigerate as needed.
• Check supplies and inform supervisor when stock is low or equipment fails.
• Follow assigned recipes and portions.
• Assist cooks and kitchen staff with tasks as required.
• Stock shelves and refrigerators and put away deliveries.
• Use manual or electric appliances to clean, peel, slice, and trim foods.
