Job description

About Us:

Filé Gumbo Bar is inspired by the iconic ingredient used to thicken and flavor our gumbo. Filé, pronounced fee-lay, means thread or string in French, referring to the dried and ground leaves of the North American sassafras tree.

The centerpiece of our menu is Tiny’s Gumbo, inspired by the owner’s grandfather, Aubrey “Tiny” Gaines. Tiny had a larger-than-life presence and believed there was nothing better than shellfish and spice.

While Gumbo is our signature dish, dining at Filé offers an educational experience about the culinary subtleties of Cajun and Creole food, which are as independent as they are intertwined within a rich culinary history.

Full-Time Prep Cook
Job Summary:

We are seeking professional and energetic Prep Cooks who are proficient in following recipe cards and possess excellent knife skills. Must be available Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm. You will prepare food according to the chef’s exact specifications and play a key role in contributing to customer satisfaction.

Requirements and Skills:
  • Must have NYC Food Protection Certificate
  • Proven experience as a Line Cook, Restaurant Cook, or Prep Cook
  • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
  • Accuracy and speed in executing tasks
  • Familiarity with industry’s best practices
