Major Food Group in Torrisi, New York, NY is hiring experienced Prep Cooks to join our team at Torrisi, an Italian-American restaurant with an extensive wine program and a luxe deli. Located in the historic Puck Building, Torrisi offers warm hospitality and showstopping dishes.

As a Prep Cook you will assist the head chef with chopping vegetables, preparing sauces, maintaining equipment and a clean, hygienic workspace; strong communication and a team-first attitude are essential.

Qualifications

• Culinary diploma or equivalent in experience preferred.
• Team-oriented and positive attitude.
• Strong communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head chef by chopping vegetables and washing food items.
• Ensure kitchen equipment and appliances are ready for use.
• Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment at all times.
• Prepare salads, breads, salad dressings and sauces.
• Gather food ingredients from the refrigerator or freezer as required by the chef.
• Ensure food is stored away properly when not in use.
• Study the menu and prepare ingredients ahead of schedule.
• Learn about the cooking methods and techniques employed in the kitchen.

Located in the historic Puck Building, Torrisi, a love letter to Little Italy, proudly presents an Italian-American restaurant with an extensive wine program, a New York-Italian cocktail bar and a luxe deli. Chef Rich Torrisi presides over an open kitchen and presents showstopping dishes, with many prepared or finished tableside to engender warm and welcoming hospitality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the head chef by chopping vegetables and washing food items
• Ensure kitchen equipment and appliances are ready for use
• Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment at all times
• Prepare salads, breads, salad dressings and sauces
