Job summary

Self Help Inc. is seeking a Prep Cook to support the Head Cook in preparing and distributing meals for the Child feeding program in accordance with CACFP and state/federal regulations. The position emphasizes proper food handling, safety, and accurate meal distribution.

The role requires lifting 30-50 lbs, a valid food handling certification, and a minimum of three years of kitchen experience. Work is Monday–Friday with a 6:30 AM start and about 35–37.5 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in healthcare, schools, institutional feeding or restaurant setting.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid food handling certification required

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Head Cook in preparation of food for other activities.
  • Assists in receiving deliveries and storage along with the proper rotation of food and dairy supplies, and appropriate storage of all foods to ensure safe, quality foods.
  • Assists in maintaining orderliness and cleanliness of kitchen along with equipment, floors, supplies and work areas according with local, state and federal sanitation code.
  • Assists the kitchen aids in the delivery of all meals and cleanup of dishes and silverware
  • Attend all training sessions as required.
  • Communicates appropriately and effectively with all staff to coordinate daily menus
  • Upholds the principles and policies of the nutrition and Head Start performance standards.

We provide a range of services for families and households across Southern Massachusetts.

Job Summary

Works with the Head Cook in preparation and distribution of Food for the Child feeding program, including diets for children with allergies and separate lunches in accordance with C.A.C.F.P guidelines and state and Federal regulations. And meal documentation for outside sites

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with the Head Cook in preparation of food for other activities.
  • Assisting in receiving deliveries and storage along with the proper rotation of food and dairy supplies, and appropriate storage of all foods to ensure safe, quality foods.
  • Assists in maintaining orderliness and cleanliness of kitchen along with equipment, floors, supplies and work areas according with local, state and federal sanitation code.

Other Requirements
  • Must pass a criminal background check and other required clearances
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required
  • Must be able to lift 30-50lbs.

Monday-Friday

Start Time: 6:30AM

35-37.5 Hours per week

Hourly Rate

$19-$21

Education & Experience
