Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Genetics, or a related life sciences field preferred.
• One to two years of experience working with patients, in a healthcare setting, or in a medical office preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records, pathology reports, and laboratory test requisitions.
• Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Compassionate, patient-centered approach with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor the status of established genetics patients, including tracking pending clinical work-up and follow-up activities.
• Review clinic schedules to identify patients who may require prenatal genetic counseling services.
• Serve as a liaison between referring providers and the genetic counseling team to facilitate communication and care coordination.
• Support the coordination and delivery of cancer and prenatal genetic counseling services.
• Collaborate with laboratories, genetic counselors, clinicians, and other stakeholders regarding genetic testing, referrals, sample collection, status updates, and follow-up.
• Communicate with patients regarding appointments, testing, and other care-related needs under the direction of the genetic counseling team.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Assist with research initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and educational projects as needed.
