Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking a Preconstruction Manager for Colorado-based mechanical construction projects. This role focuses on leading preconstruction efforts, developing competitive budgets, and collaborating with clients and project teams to bring complex HVAC, plumbing, and duct systems to life.

The position requires 6+ years in mechanical construction estimating or preconstruction, with design-build/design-assist experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of mechanical construction estimating or preconstruction experience.
• Experience creating budgets and proposals for complex mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, piping, or commercial mechanical jobs.
• Experience with design-build or design-assist delivery.
• Ability to read drawings, specs, and schedules.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong communication and project-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction activities for commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects.
• Develop conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and proposals for HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and sheet metal systems.
• Collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, and general contractors to develop effective mechanical solutions.
• Manage design-build and design-assist projects from initial concept through final preconstruction turnover.
• Identify value engineering opportunities that improve project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Prepare and manage RFQs, RFPs, project budgets, and negotiated proposals.
• Coordinate with estimating, purchasing, and operations teams to ensure successful project execution.
• Build strong client relationships and contribute to securing future construction opportunities.

• Experience developing conceptual budgets and proposals for complex mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, piping, or commercial mechanical construction.
• Experience with design-build or design-assist project delivery.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical training and relevant experience.
• Strong communication, negotiation, organization, and project management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating software; Bluebeam experience is especially relevant to the Thornton opportunity.
• LEED accreditation, P.E. licensure, and QuickPen or AutoBid experience are valuable additional qualifications.
