Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. in Sanford, FL is seeking a Preconstruction Services Manager to lead cost estimating during design and coordinate with subs and suppliers.

You will read drawings and geo-technical reports, develop GMP budgets, create schedules in P6, and build long-term relationships with vendors while meeting hard deadlines on projects ranging from several million to over 100 million.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years estimating or field experience.
• Experience with hard bid municipal commercial projects.
• Strong communication and organizational skills; proficient with MS Outlook, Word, Excel.
• MC2 knowledge preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to commute to job sites.

Responsibilities

• Estimate design-phase costs and lead the estimating group.
• Read drawings, geotechnical reports and specifications.
• Identify utility conflicts and bypass areas.
• Perform quantity take-offs for pipe, concrete and sitework.
• Formulate unit prices as needed.
• Solicit subcontractor/supplier participation via phone or email.
• Write RFIs to engineers.
• Develop project RFQ and RFPs.
• Establish project database for proposals.
• Create construction schedules for estimates in P6.
• Coordinate and establish the GMP budget.
• Manage projects with hard deadlines from 4M to 120M.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key vendors and subs.
• Participate in pre and post-construction reviews.
