Job summary

EMCOR Group seeks a Summer 2027 Preconstruction Engineer - Intern to support preconstruction and estimating teams in planning competitive mechanical construction proposals. Under guidance, you will assist with quantity takeoffs, bid documentation, vendor outreach, and cost data organization.

This internship provides practical exposure to preconstruction workflows, while building technical knowledge and professional communication skills on real projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, mechanical, civil, or architectural engineering.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specs with guidance.
• Coursework or exposure to construction, estimating, mechanical systems, scheduling, or project management.
• Familiarity with BIM, Bluebeam, or estimating software.
• Prior internship, trade, field, or team-based experience; prior construction helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing drawings, specifications, addenda to understand scope and requirements.
• Support quantity takeoffs and organization of labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor data.
• Help prepare bid folders, estimate files, scope sheets, and proposal documents.
• Assist with soliciting, receiving, tracking, and organizing vendor/subcontractor quotations.
• Participate in scope reviews, bid meetings, site visits, and handoff meetings.
• Help prepare questions and requests for clarification.
• Maintain organized project information and cost data.
• Collaborate with estimating, project management, engineering, operations, vendors, and subcontractors.
