Job summary

The Hoffman Building Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Preconstruction Engineer I in Nashville to develop accurate cost estimates and scope documentation for building automation projects.

This in-office role provides the financial foundation for pursuits and a pathway to growth into engineering, sales, or project management. You will review plans, perform quantity takeoffs, prepare estimate back-ups, and collaborate with Inside and Outside Sales Engineers to ensure clarity of scope and pricing

Qualifications

• Reading project drawings, specifications, and schedules.
• Strong math, analytical, and detail-oriented cost buildup skills.
• Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and cost components.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans and scope to understand basis of design.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for devices, cables, labor, and subcontractors.
• Develop accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, and subcontractors using standards and tools.
• Prepare clear estimate backup: BOMs, labor summaries, assumptions, and exclusions.
• Collaborate with Sales Engineers to confirm estimating basis and scope boundaries.
• Obtain and evaluate vendor/subcontractor quotations for clarity and alignment.
• Participate in internal estimate reviews and handoffs with project teams.
• Assist with assembling internal estimate packages and proposal inputs.
• Update estimates for scope changes and value engineering ideas.
