Job summary

Hoffman Building Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Preconstruction Engineer I to develop accurate cost estimates and detailed scopes of work for building automation projects.

This in-office role supports sales and project teams, providing the financial and scope foundation for pursuits and future growth within the organization. The position emphasizes collaboration with Inside and Outside Sales Engineers, conducting quantity takeoffs, preparing clear estimate backups, and maintaining organized

Qualifications

• Engineering or related degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specs.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills for takeoffs and cost build-ups.
• Experience with HVAC/building automation knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans to understand scope and basis of design.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for devices, labor, and subcontractors.
• Develop cost estimates using company standards and tools.
• Prepare estimate back-up with BOM, labor summaries, and assumptions.
• Collaborate with sales engineers to confirm estimating basis.
• Maintain organized estimating files and libraries.
• Assist with assembling internal estimate packages and proposals.
• Support revisions for scope changes and value engineering.
