Job summary

CoVolt Power seeks a high-impact Preconstruction Engineer to lead technical development and early-stage design for utility-scale PV and BESS projects. You will shape competitive EPC estimates, coordinate between engineering, estimating, and procurement, and develop optimized, buildable solutions.

You will produce Basis of Design documents, study multiple design scenarios, and communicate design tradeoffs and risks to internal and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field from an accredited university.
• 3+ years of experience in solar EPC, developer, or engineering firm.
• 2+ years of experience in planning, design, and engineering of utility-scale PV and/or BESS systems.
• Familiarity with interconnection, site constraints, and permitting considerations.
• Understanding of construction methods and cost drivers in utility-scale solar.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Word/Excel/Outlook; SharePoint, PVcase, PVsyst, Procore preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop conceptual utility-scale PV & BESS designs, including site layouts and single-line concepts.
• Review client dataroom, RFPs, and site constraints to define design criteria and risks early in pursuit.
• Evaluate design scenarios to balance cost, schedule, energy yield, and constructability.
• Develop material takeoffs, equipment selections, and inputs to support EPC estimates.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, procurement, and construction teams.
• Engage with OEMs, subcontractors, and vendors for technical evaluations and pricing.
• Create Basis of Design documents for handoff to detailed engineering.
• Communicate design intentions, tradeoffs, risks, and value engineering to stakeholders.
