Job summary

100Hires, Inc. is seeking a skilled machinist to transform drawings into precise machining plans and to own setups on ProtoTRAK SMX mills. You will program, run, and optimize milling, drilling, and tapping operations while maintaining tight tolerances and quality.

The role requires 5+ years of hands-on machining, strong GD&T knowledge, and experience with automation/tooling builds. A safety-minded, collaborative team player is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on machining experience.
• Proven capability with ProtoTRAK SMX or similar conversational CNC/manual platforms.
• Experience supporting automation equipment, tooling, or fixture builds (preferred).
• Solid foundation in blueprint reading and GD&T; expert in milling setup/operation.
• Deep knowledge of cutting tool selection, speeds/feeds optimization, and material behavior.
• Trade certification or formal machining training is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Transform engineering drawings into a clear machining plan with defined sequences and tolerances.
• Own complete setups on ProtoTRAK SMX mills: fixtures, tooling, and workholding; load material and secure parts.
• Program/edit conversational routines for milling, drilling, boring, and tapping.
• Run parts; monitor performance; fine-tune speeds/feeds for quality and efficiency.
• Diagnose tool wear or setup issues and implement corrective actions.
• Measure with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and indicators; verify tolerances; record results.
• Drive continuous improvement to reduce scrap and optimize cycle times.
• Perform preventive maintenance and uphold safety standards.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Machine Builders on tooling/equipment builds; interface with vendors/customers.
