Job summary

Steel Tool & Engineering is seeking a Tool Maker to build, repair, and maintain precision tools and fixtures used in aerospace-grade manufacturing. The role requires reading engineering documentation and producing high-accuracy components that meet tight tolerances.

You will machine tooling with CNC and manual equipment, inspect parts with precision instruments, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while adhering to safety and 5S principles.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in tool room or precision machining environment.
• High accuracy and tolerance discipline.
• Proficient in reading CAD drawings.
• Apprenticeship or journeyman credentials are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications to determine tooling requirements.
• Machine, assemble, and finish tools using CNC and manual mills/lathes, grinders, and hand tools.
• Set up and operate CNC and manual machining equipment to produce precision components.
• Inspect finished tools using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMMs to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Diagnose wear or failure, perform repairs, and restore tooling to production-ready condition.
• Determine machining sequences, setups, and methods to efficiently produce tooling.
• Participate in problem-solving, Kaizen activities, and root-cause analysis to improve tooling reliability.
• Maintain accurate records, update setup sheets, and communicate tooling changes to engineering and production teams.
• Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
• Repetitive tasks with few breaks.
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
