Job summary

Divergent is seeking a hands-on Surfacing & Grinding Technician in Long Beach, CA. The role focuses on setup, operation, and continuous improvement of precision rotary surface grinding processes for high-value components.

The ideal candidate will read engineering drawings, apply GD&T, and work with QA and Manufacturing Engineering to optimize quality and throughput. Expect a dynamic, manufacturing‑heavy environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or technical certification required.
• Experience in precision grinding and GD&T techniques.
• Ability to read complex engineering drawings and measurements.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate rotary surface grinding equipment (Blanchard-style).
• Review drawings, GD&T, work instructions, and inspection requirements before machining.
• Develop grinding setups based on material, geometry, stock, tolerance and surface finish requirements.
• Select wheels, abrasives, feeds, speeds, and coolant for optimal results.
• Mount, dress, true and maintain grinding wheels.
• Perform rough and finish grinding while controlling flatness and parallelism.
• Conduct in-process and final dimensional inspections with precision measuring tools.
• Identify and correct grinding issues to reduce defects and improve throughput.
