Job summary

SEPTA seeks a Rail Vehicle Machinist 1st Class for its Rail Vehicle Maintenance Shops in Philadelphia. Responsibilities include setting up and operating a range of machine tools to manufacture and repair parts with tight tolerances, reading drawings, and handling various metal components.

Compensation varies by division with hourly rates ranging from $36.23 to $41.27, plus annual increases after one year. Benefits include medical, pension, tuition reimbursement, and transportation passes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years vocational training or equivalent and minimum three years of machinist experience.
• Must pass written skills testing.
• Familiar with air equipment repair work, saw and machine tool use/maintenance.
• Able to read blueprints and drawings.
• Must have own hand tools.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate machine tools to produce precision parts.
• Fabricate, modify or repair mechanical components per drawings.
• Set up and align shop equipment such as lathes, milling machines and grinders.
• Machine, shape and assemble parts to OEM specifications.
• Perform non-destructive testing and inspection as required.
• Maintain and repair machine shop equipment per OEM practices.
• Perform metal hardening and hardness testing per approved methods.
