The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, serving a 2,200 square mile region with bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail services. We are seeking candidates for the position of Vehicle & Equipment Body Mechanic (0621) in both City Transit and Regional Rail.

  • Starting Pay Rate: $37.11/hour. After 12 months: $41.23/hour, based on applicable contract.
Overall Description

This opening is at Frankford. As an experienced vehicle body mechanic, you will inspect, analyze, estimate scope of work, and repair vehicles and equipment.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Inspect, analyze collision damage, and estimate scope of work.
  • Repair vehicles and equipment, including removal and installation of interior and exterior body components.
  • Perform collision repairs such as applying body filler, straightening panels, and repairing underframes and brackets.
  • Patching, splicing, grinding, sanding, and finishing body parts.
  • Paint and blend finishes on body surfaces.
  • Replace electrical and pneumatic parts, rehang doors, and posts.
  • Remove rust, fabricate and replace structural components using welding and cutting equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of written and performance tests as per labor agreement.
  • Experience in vehicle rebuilding, sheet metal work, fiberglass repair, carpentry, and welding.
  • Necessary tools as detailed on the job tool list.
  • Relevant training and work experience when requested.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on mass transit vehicles is preferred but not required.
