Job summary

Sunset Industries, Inc. in Mentor, OH is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Inspector to assure precision components meet exacting GD&T tolerances and customer specifications.

You will inspect components, support FAIRs and Certificates of Conformance, and collaborate with machinists and engineers to prevent defects. The role requires experience in precision manufacturing, familiarity with AS9100/AS9102 standards, and the ability to work with inspection instrumentation.

Qualifications

• Quality control/inspection experience in machining or precision manufacturing: 2+ years
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T tolerances
• Proficiency with inspection instrumentation (micrometers, calipers, height stands, bore gauges, thread gauges, optical comparators)
• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree welcomed
• Strong computer skills, especially Excel
• Self-starter with minimal supervision
• Integrity and trust in handling confidential information
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials as needed
• Familiarity with AS9100/AS9102 preferred
• ITAR compliance awareness

Responsibilities

• Inspect and document precision machined components per customer print and AS9100D requirements.
• Interpret technical prints and apply GD&T tolerances.
• Perform first piece inspection after setup and report results to machinist and floor management.
• Conduct final inspection after machining and outside processing; record characteristics.
• Inspect incoming material and outside services; review supplier certifications.
• Set up and verify gauges and ensure calibration status.
• Assist with AS9102 FAIRs and Certificates of Conformance; submit records via Net-Inspect.
• Identify non-conformances and support root-cause corrective actions.
• Collaborate with machinists, programmers, and engineering to resolve issues at the source.
• Contribute to continuous improvement; move inspection records to digital platforms.
• Maintain clean inspection area; adhere to FOD and safety procedures.
