Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection per lab policies to ensure accurate specimen collection.
• Ensures positive patient identification using two identifiers and bedside labeling to prevent errors.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the lab while maintaining sample integrity and safety.
• Explains procedures to patients and provides reassurance for a positive patient experience.
• Maintains and cleans phlebotomy equipment and workspace following safety and infection control standards.
• Documents patient and specimen information accurately in the lab system per regulatory requirements.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and prioritizes tasks to meet clinical needs.
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues, including rejections and recollection as needed.
• Collaborates with healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Follows all safety requirements and laboratory procedures to ensure accreditation standards.
